Ashley & Robert

One of the nicest parts about being a wedding photographer is, every now and again, someone you've known for what seems like forever will get engaged and ask you to shoot their wedding.

To me, it's always an interesting proposition as a wedding is a fairly serious event and most of the people I know and count as friends are people I've never seen in a "serious" light per se.

And that's exactly why I loved Ashley and Robert's May engagement session at Roger Williams Park.

I've known Ashley for well over a decade and her sister, who was in my wedding party, for even longer and getting to see Ashley with her soon-to-be husband and their amazingly well-trained dog was a great experience and an even better shoot.

I pride myself on how comfortable my clients feel during their shoot and, because Ashley and I have known each other for so long, that comfort was evident from the first photo and made their session one of the most relaxed engagement shoots I've ever had.

But seriously. Their dog? I've never seen such a photo-trained animal.

Don't believe me? Take a look.

Ashley, Rob and I began our shoot at Roger Williams Park at the Japanese Gardens. I love this location for a number of reasons but the No. 1, by far, is the beautiful bridges that make for great scenes for a bride and groom ... even if the water looks less than appealing.

After a stop at the Japanese Gardens, Ashley, Rob and I headed over to the Temple of Music and Iron Footbridge, two of my favorite spots in the park, and we made short work of their session as it seemed like the perfect weather made shooting a breeze.

I can't think of an easier engagement shoot as Ashley and Robert were up for whatever poses we had in mind and their dog was the perfect companion whenever we called on him to jump in a shot or two.

By the time our session was over, it felt like literally no time had passed but, in actuality, we spent two hours touring Roger Williams Park and still had plenty of areas we could have gone to for more photos.

The good thing about that is we'll have plenty of time to do so in April as this bride and groom will be getting married at the park's Casino and if I wasn't excited to shoot their wedding before, I certainly am now.

I loved watching Ashley and Rob interact together in the park and can't wait to see their beautiful relationship grow on their wedding day.

If it's half as fun as their engagement shoot was, it will be an absolute blast.
