Becky & Doug

As a wedding photographer, it's hard not to notice the couples in your social circle who are together but not yet married. I find it fascinating to see these relationships grow from one stage to the next and can't help but wonder what their wedding day will ultimately be like and, of course, try to pitch my services whenever appropriate.

Perhaps that's why I'd been eagerly looking forward to the day Becky and Doug got engaged. I've known Becky for most of my adult life as her brother is one of my closest friends and was one of my groomsmen in my own wedding and, by extension, I've known "Becky and Doug" for just about as long.

And when the two finally made it official last Christmas, I couldn't help but smile knowing it will be an amazing wedding long overdue to two awesome people.

And why am I so sure that's the case? Because I watched them interact with one another during a super sweet and memorable engagement session at Roger Williams Park earlier this fall.

Becky and Doug's engagement session was everything I thought it would be and more.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. It was much better than I thought as the normally camera-shy Doug was a real trooper for this shoot and gave me much more to work with than I was anticipating.

Though we only shot together for about an hour and 10 minutes, he and Becky were on point from the first to last photo and willing to accommodate all of my silly poses and location suggestions.

I think the photos do a great job of capturing their individual spirits but, more importantly, really showcase their identity as a couple.

Roger Williams Park is one of my go-to locations for engagement sessions and Doug and Becky showed why as we were able to get a ton of variety in posing despite only going to three locations in the park.

If I had to choose, I'd say my favorite location was the Temple of Music as the water behind the temple made a great addition to the vertical photos below and gave me a ton to work with.

By the time we hit the 80-minute mark, I could tell I was losing this groom and I can't blame him. This was one scorching hot day.

Still, I think all in all Becky and Doug's engagement session was an awesome time capsule into what their relationship is currently like and while marriage changes many couples, I don't think that will be a problem for these two.

Becky and Doug are getting married next June and I'm excited to be there to capture this day for them. It's been a day a lot of people in both of their lives have looked forward to and if their engagement session is any indication, it will absolutely be worth the wait.
