I've always thought that the couple that laughs together, stays together and that's a big reason why, on a wedding day, nothing gives me greater happiness than seeing two newlyweds who can keep each other's spirits up and act silly throughout the biggest day of their lives.
For Caroline and Morgan, who were married on a cold but beautiful April afternoon at Fort Adams Trust in Newport, Rhode Island, the amount of love they had for each other was evident in every smile, every joke and every silly smirk and on this afternoon, there were a LOT of them.
Caroline and Morgan were two of the sweetest brides I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know on their big day and whether it was the unique venue they chose (A historic military fort turned state park) or the dance-heavy reception they had after their vows, one thing was clear when I left this wedding: Though this was my first wedding shoot of 2017, it will definitely be one that sticks in my mind by the end of the season and long beyond. It really was that beautiful.
My coverage of Caroline and Morgan's big day began with a special first look between the brides inside one of the dilapidated buildings inside Fort Adams State Park. While it may not seem like a place for a sweet moment like this, it actually worked brilliantly as the holes in the wall all added character to the room and provided the perfect backdrop for the couple to have a few minutes to themselves before the day began.
Caroline and Morgan's wedding ceremony took place indoors in a beautiful and intimate room used to display historic guides and artifacts. The ceremony was a short one but an incredibly touching one full of laughter as the brides recounted their meeting and falling in love while promising to spend everyday improving for each other.
But as sweet as it was, it was also a very funny ceremony ... which sums these brides up nicely as the laughs were plenty on this rainy, early spring afternoon in Newport.
Even I was only a second shooter for this wedding, thanks to the proximity of locations around Fort Adams, it didn't take me long to take care of my coverage of cocktail hour and get back to Caroline and Morgan in time for their formal photos with the lead photography and, boy, am I glad I did as these two had a great time posing for bridal portraits around the Fort. Talk about a beautiful backdrop for a wedding.
I may not have met Caroline and Morgan prior to their wedding day but, on the day itself, it felt like we knew each other for a lifetime and the positive energy the two brides infected the room with created a beautiful atmosphere. I knew this was going to be a fun reception and it really, truly was as the two brides cut loose and had a blast dancing to a wide variety of pop and rock music.
By the time the night was over, I don't think I saw a single person at Carolina and Morgan's Fort Adams Trust wedding that didn't have a gigantic smile on their face. These two brides shared an incredible day together and I know they loved every second of it.
More importantly, they did it their way and thanks to a great venue and a rocking crowd, this was one reception that lived up to the hype and then some. What an amazing time for an amazing couple and an amazing relationship.
