Featured Photo of the Month: June, 2014

As part of a regular feature on this website, I am going to feature one of my favorite photos each month and talk a little bit about how I got the shot, where it is located and what it means to me. This month's entry is a classic Rhode Island staple for any photographer: the Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge in Newport, Rhode Island.

This is one of my favorite spots to shoot. On one side of the bridge (the left in the photo) is the busy tourist town of Newport, Rhode Island. On the other side (to the right in this photo) is the very quiet, small-knit area of Jamestown, Rhode Island.

The spot where I was shooting from has the perfect angle on the bridge, one of my favorite landmarks in the state, and is a very relaxing little fishing hole where you can go and forget all that's bothering me.

I love this photo because of what it stands for. On the one hand, you have this big, industrial, man-made bridge. On the other, you have the quiet and peaceful water.

It's a nice reminder that, ultimately, you can choose which direction you want to go in and I never miss a chance to look at this photo and remember that.
