I love engagement shoots.
As a wedding photographer, one of my greatest joys is getting together with a client and trying to figure out how they tick and who they are as people and, if i'm lucky enough to shoot their engagement session, I find out first-hand just how their relationship works.
Some couples are traditional and it shows in the locations they pick for their shoot and the style in which they want their photos to come out. Others are more relaxed and easygoing and that, too, shows clearly.
For Christina and Jay, I knew moments into their May engagement session that they were going to be a very relaxed, very chill couple open for anything and, without a doubt, my favorite photo from their shoot represents just that.
Standing on a series of rocks at Black Point in Narragansett, Rhode Island, a very beautiful location that we just happened to stumble on as we made our way across the beach and ruins on an overcast Sunday, Christina and Jay were entirely open to anything I wanted to do and, apparently, that included walking into the nasty water to get just the right angle for the photo above.
What I love about the photo above is it shows a sweet and traditional moment that is half-posed, half-candid and all special.
Christina and Jay are a fun-loving couple and the shoot as a whole was a great way to kick off wedding season. More importantly, I really feel this shot is a great start to what proved to be an incredibly successful May full of beautiful brides, hilarious grooms and the beauty of love.
If nothing else, this shot makes me incredibly excited to see how their wedding photos turn out ... but that's another post for another day.
More specifically, March 5th of next year.
