No matter how many weddings I shoot, I'll never get tired of the moment when I get to sit with a bride and groom to deliver their photos and help them relive their wedding day. There's also a nervous anticipation on my part but I absolutely love seeing their eyes light up and hearing them laugh over the moments we captured.
For Nicole and Tyler, who were married back in September at Providence G in Providence, Rhode Island, there were more of those moments that I could ever dare count.
Nicole and Tyler had one of the longest wedding days I've documented this year but it was a day so full of laughter and love that I can't blame this couple for wanting it all captured.
Whether it was their super fun prep sessions, an adorable first look, a rowdy set of family formal photos or their beautiful wedding ceremony and reception at a truly unique Providence venue, this day had it all and I know this bride and groom will cherish the memories they made when they said "I do" for the rest of their lives.
If I had any doubt how complete my coverage of Nicole and Tyler's wedding day would be, it was removed the moment we went over their final timeline as the pair took the rare step of having me start at groom prep and then make my way to bride prep.
I absolutely LOVE when this happens, especially because it lets me see up close how the groom is handling the stress of his wedding day. Tyler was the best example of how to do this as he was in great spirits and looked genuinely excited for the day's festivities.
And who can blame him? This was going to be a day to remember for sure.
Though I only spent a little while with Tyler, I could tell how excited he was to get the day rolling and he wasn't alone.
The moment I walked into Nicole's bridal prep, she was beaming with a smile from ear to ear and all of her bridesmaids were having a great time finishing up their hair and makeup.
I love getting to see the final moments of a bride's transformation and few have handled that change as well as Nicole, who looked as comfortable in her wedding dress as any bride I've ever seen before.
It was almost strange to see the lack of stress or anxiety on her face but, looking back, I can't say I blame her. She and Tyler were high school sweethearts and though this day meant the world to them, it was one she likely envisioned for YEARS. And anytime you picture yourself in a moment like this for that long, it's bound to feel like second nature when it actually comes.
With Nicole's transformation into a full fledged, real bride was complete -- following quite a bit of joyful tears from her grandparents, parents and friends -- we made our way down to the dock where she and Tyler would share their first look.
I always love first looks as there's such a build and anticipation to the moment when a groom sees his bride for the first time and Nicole and Tyler didn't disappoint. Not only did Nicole play right into my playful teasing of Tyler before allowing him to turn around but Tyler himself had the exact reaction I wanted when he did finally see her.
Moreso, when I stepped away from the couple for a moment, I got to watch Nicole show off the dress to Tyler and see his genuine love of how she looked. It was a beautiful moment neither they, nor I, will soon forget.
Following Nicole and Tyler's first look, we were fortunate enough to take care of their family formal photos while we still had a nice, overcast sky above us. Nicole and Tyler's family and friends were a blast to work with but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to get right back to bride and groom portraits and spend all day with these two alone as they were one of my most fun couples to pose and take photos of.
It doesn't hurt that we had beautiful locations to work with either. After starting at Nicole's parents' home, we made our way to Tiverton High School for a couple of sweet shots of the high school sweethearts back where they met and then capped our journey at the brand new Providence River Pedestrian Bridge.
I could have spent another hour or more with Nicole and Tyler on the pedestrian bridge. It was really that stunning and they were that much fun to work with.
But, at a certain point, this bride and groom needed to get, you know, married so off we went to Providence G for their ceremony.
And what a ceremony it was.
Nicole and Tyler's wedding ceremony was full of fun little moments that meant a lot to the bride and groom, like the friend they had as their officiant that made them and the crowd laugh quite a bit, Nicole being walked down the aisle by BOTH her father and stepfather and a really great (but maybe slightly awkward) celebration when they were officially official.
Following Nicole and Tyler's ceremony, I finally found some time to photograph their wedding reception details inside the gorgeous ballroom at Providence G.
Even though I'd never been to this venue before, I heard a lot about it prior to this wedding and it was all true. This was a beautiful spot to get married in and Nicole and Tyler took full advantage of it with their simple and classic color scheme.
As much fun as everything leading up to Nicole and Tyler's reception was, I knew the moment they walked in during their introductions that the party was just now getting started.
Nicole and Tyler wasted no time stealing the show the moment they entered the Providence G ballroom and their first dance, set to “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett, was a great song choice to set the tone for the night we would have.
I especially loved the dances Nicole and Tyler had with their parents. There's a lot that can be said in an expression and both of the newlyweds said a ton without saying a word during these classic moments.
As sweet and touching as Nicole and Tyler's reception was during the big, signature moments, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eagerly anticipating how their friends and family members would handle things once the dance floor opened up.
Suffice to say, this might be the best reception I have this year.
Talk about a party.
By the time I got ready to leave Nicole and Tyler's wedding reception at Providence G, all I could think about was how thoroughly exhausted I was from running around all day and night.
To me, though, that's a GREAT sign as this couple had an unbelievably amazing wedding from start to finish.
And, honestly, they deserve it.
Nicole and Tyler are two of the sweetest people I've met as a wedding photographer and their love story and relationship is absolutely inspiring and a great reminder of why I do what I do.
So congratulations Nicole and Tyler and good luck making sure your relationship lives up to the hype and fun of your wedding day. If nothing else, you're off to a great start so far.
