Keirys & Jhair

I've spent a lot of time the last month or so redesigning my website from the top to the bottom and one of the nice things about that is it's given me a lot of time to reflect on my career thus far as a photographer, including visiting some of the first weddings I ever shot.

One of those was back in 2015 with Keirys and Jhair, one of the most amazing couples I've ever worked with. I was scared to death heading into their wedding day as I already photographed their engagement session a few months earlier and really didn't want to mess things up. Thankfully, these two are amazing people and their wedding was one of the most fun days I've ever had in my career.

I still think about the day Keirys and Jhair said "I do" so you can imagine how I happy I was a few weeks ago when they reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in photographing a special couples' shoot for their five-year anniversary.

As you can expect, I jumped at the chance. And I'm so glad I did.

Even though it doesn't feel like five years since these two walked down the aisle, I honestly can't believe how much fun they still are and it's clear to me their love has only grown since they became husband and wife.

I'm so thrilled I had the chance to once again show it through my camera.

My shoot with Keirys and Jhair started with a trip down memory lane as I met them at home in Providence, the same location where I shot Keirys' bridal prep nearly five years to the day earlier. In fact, as Keirys finished getting ready, I couldn't help but marvel at all the photos from their wedding day that they had hung up in their home.

It's really an honor when someone loves your work enough to put it on the walls of their house and, looking back on the shots they've displayed for their friends and their family members to see, I understand why. I love those photos so much. They're a constant reminder of such an amazing day for me. I can only imagine how the bride and groom behind them feel every time they look at them on the wall.

Keirys and Jhair asked me to come to their home so we could take a couple of photos of them with their dog on their front step and I was happy to oblige. Even though the dog spent a LOT of time barking at me — probably because I'm a cat person — it was still great to see their budding little family at a place I know means a ton for them.

Next up, we headed over to the Providence Pedestrian Bridge, one of my new favorite locations to photograph a couple. Keirys and Jhair showed why the moment we got to the site.

Keirys and Jhair have such a sweet chemistry about them and they're both incredibly photogenic people. More importantly, what I love about these two is they're always willing to follow my silly sense of creativity wherever it leads me so whether it was the start of our session together — when I abruptly stopped us on a random pier next to the bridge — or agreeing to walk down a slippery path that I thought looked great, these two were game for anything and I think it made for some awesome photos.

I especially loved the shots we got of the two of them on the underside of the bridge as the sun was coming down just enough to make for some super sweet light that brought out their spirit beautifully.

I could have photographed Keirys and Jhair for hours (and have) as these two are a riot to work with. They're both really sweet, kind and funny and it shows in the photos.

As we started to wind down our time together — conveniently as the sun really started to set — Keirys and Jhair broke out one of the framed photos they have on their wall from their wedding day. It was a nice call-back to the day their lives changed forever and a great reminder of why I do what I do.

As Keirys, Jhair and I headed back from their shoot, I couldn't help but marvel over how much my life and career have changed since I last worked with them. I'm sure the same is true for them.

I'm a pretty sentimental person and I try to think about the key people and moments that impacted me the most and Keirys and Jhair are certainly on that list. Their wedding day is STILL one of my favorite ones of all time and I learned a ton about myself and my photographic style that day.

It's a debt I'll never truly be able to pay but I'm glad to say that I'll always be around to retell the story of their love together anytime they want to go out there again and take some photos together.

So congratulations on five wonderful years together Keirys and Jhair. I look forward to helping you document years 10, 15, 20 and beyond. You're always welcome in front of my camera. Anytime you want. :)
