Terrydiddle Farm Wedding

Kayla & Chris

Wedding days are all about moments. The first time you see your soon-to-be spouse. The way you read your vows to one another. The smiles you sneak from across the dance floor when no one else is looking.

I love the moments that define wedding days and few weddings have ever had as many touching and downright beautiful moments as Kayla and Chris did on the August afternoon they said "I do" at Terrydiddle Farm in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.

I first met Kayla and Chris nearly two years before their wedding day and, at the time, not much was set in stone. The pair knew they wanted a rustic wedding that reflected their spirit together and was, in essence, a large party for their friends and family to celebrate their relationship.

What they got was something so much better.

Kayla and Chris had a touching summer wedding full of emotions, full of laughter and downright fun.

And I'm just glad they asked me to document it all because this was one wedding I would have hated to miss.

My coverage of Kayla and Chris' wedding started roughly a half hour before I took a single photo as, much like I do with any venue I haven't seen before, I arrived at Terrydiddle Farm early to see what we were working with. I knew right away this would be a great day as I ran into Kayla the moment I drove into the parking lot and she seemed in great spirits.
Not to mention, the venue was gorgeous.
I'm a little bit partial to wedding receptions inside of tents so I knew right away I was going to have a fun day with this bride and groom but almost everywhere we had planned for photos offered something beautiful to work with.

Yeah. This was going to be a good day.

I knew from the minute I walked into Kayla's bridal prep area that we were in for a great time as not only was the bride cracking jokes and laughing but all of her bridesmaids were nearly finished with their hair and makeup and eager to get the afternoon started.

That meant we had no issues sticking to the timeline, getting Kayla in her dress on schedule, taking care of bridal party formal photos and setting up a beautiful first look between the bride and her father.

The First Look

Speaking of first looks, Kayla and Chris decided to go a little outside of the box for their first look and opted for a "first touch" instead. The concept was simple. They didn't want to see each other until Kayla walked down the aisle but they still wanted a moment together before the ceremony.
I'm so glad they did because it made for some of my favorite photos of the entire day.

And with Kayla clearly getting a little overwhelmed from the moment, I couldn't help but guide the two of them together for an eyes-closed hug that I have no doubt they'll remember forever.

The Wedding Ceremony

Following Kayla and Chris' private moment together, it was time to get their ceremony started. And what a ceremony it was.

Kayla and Chris were married in the beating hot sun but you'd never know it from how happy they looked to be sharing the moment together. I especially loved seeing Chris as he had to look away from his bride several times to avoid tearing up, especially when she came down the aisle.

Kayla and Chris' ceremony was short and sweet and featured beautiful, personally-written vows and another cool twist on a classic wedding moment: Instead of a unity candle, the pair opted for a "unity Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich" and I can't think of any more fitting a way these two could have signified their new life together.

Bride & Groom Portraits

Following Kayla and Chris' ceremony, we made our way into the shade (thankfully) and rolled right through their remaining family portraits, wedding party shots and, finally, their bride and groom portraits.

I adored Chris and Kayla's bride and groom portraits. Not only was the property super nice but it had so many cool backgrounds all within a short walk.

And because I knew I'd be getting together with this pair the next afternoon for a post-wedding photo shoot, we really had no pressure to overshoot their bride and groom formals.

We still did and we got a ton of fun shots. But there wasn't any pressure and that made for a really fun and relaxing time.

Following their bride and groom formals, Kayla had another big surprise for those closest to her.

In a secret she kept even from me, Kayla ducked away for a few minutes with her hair dresser for what we all assumed was going to be a little touchup on her look.

It was more than a touchup though. Kayla had a good chunk of her hair cut.
I'm glad she waited until after the formal photos were done as it was a genuinely funny surprise but the minute I saw her new look, I couldn't help but laugh as she cleared waited A LONG time to do just that.

The Wedding Reception

Kayla wouldn't have to wait long to share her new look with those closest to her as she essentially rolled out of the hair stylist's chair and onto the dance floor for her first dance as a married woman.

Kayla and Chris' excitement was undeniable as they took to the dance floor and that would be a theme throughout the night as the pair spent a ton of time, and rightly so, in each other's arms under the tent on a picture-perfect summer evening.

Chris and Kayla's first dance was just the first of many marquee wedding reception moments we rolled through before dinner. The pair also held a special couple's dance, had their respective parent dances and had two toasts that crushed with their guests before settling in for the night's meal.

I'd be lying if I said the part of Kayla and Chris' wedding that I was looking most forward to was their reception's open dance floor. Like all good tent weddings, I had a feeling this party was going to be great and it delivered.

I especially love how into everything the bride and groom were once the music kicked in and the crowd got moving.

Chris and Kayla were never far from each other and, as the night wore on, you could see the total look of happiness on their face as their wedding was an absolute success.

One of my favorite things to do, though they didn't really notice too much, was steal candid photos of the pair as they danced with no one else looking on.

And who can blame me? They just looked so cute together!

Of course, no reception is complete without some, shall we say, alcohol-inspired partying?

Chris and Kayla's wedding guests took a little while to cut loose but once they did it was a thing of beauty.

At the end of Kayla and Chris' wedding, I couldn't help but smile as I walked back to my car in the dark field I was hidden in inside of Terrydiddle Farm's parking lot.

To say this bride and groom's big day was a success is an understatement. It was a day that really highlighted how much fun weddings can be and reminded me just how many little moments add up to make a day this important.

Chris and Kayla were an incredible couple to work with and, when all was said and done, I don't think they could have asked for a better day to commit to spending the rest of their lives together.

So, congratulations Kayla and Chris and may your wedding day just be the start of a beautiful journey by each other's side as husband and wife.
