Maeve & David

Most wedding and engagement photographers won't admit this but, a lot of times on a shoot, you tend to feed off the energy of the people you're working with. Obviously, in a perfect world, you'd click with every bride and groom but sometimes for whatever reason, the vibes are off and getting through a session can be a very difficult ask.

Then there are times when you get to work with couples like Maeve and David. I photographed this pair's engagement session at Five Bridge Inn in Rehoboth, Massachusetts back in August and, even though it felt like was 1,000 degrees out that afternoon, Maeve and David were so fun to work with that the time flew by and it felt more like I was hanging out with friends than on assignment photographing a couple's engagement session.

To say I loved this would be an understatement. These two were such a weirdly odd couple and their beautiful energy not only kept me laughing but made taking great photos a breeze and if this is any indication of how their summer 2026 wedding is going to go, I'm here for it. Big time.

I could tell from the very first photos I took of Maeve and David that we were in for a good time as the couple brought a bit of nervous energy to the shoot but in the best way possible. I always tell clients the first 15 minutes we work together are going to be a bit awkward but, instead of shying away from that, Maeve and David embraced it in a very "Where do I put my hands?" energy and that cut the awkwardness off at the knees immediately.

We started at my most-photographed piece of the Five Bridge Inn property — the white fence area — but it wasn't long before I knew I needed to get this couple on the move. Literally and figuratively.

I've shot more weddings than I can possibly count at Five Bridge Inn but, throughout them all, I've rarely had an unlimited amount of time to work with a bride and groom. For whatever reason, it's one of the only venues I've worked at where the schedule of the day constantly gets away from us and couples end up with rapid-paced, shorter portrait sessions.

That's one of the many reasons I loved working with Maeve and David as we had a ton of time to explore the area and nowhere else to be. It was only natural, then, that we moved over to a fun little bench area but, more importantly, headed to the site of their future wedding for next year. Talk about storytelling, am I right?

But, don't worry. Even with the sweet and sentimental photos we were getting, Maeve and David couldn't help goofing off and letting their naturally fun energy come through ... and, yes, I can't wait to recreate a ton of these very specific photos on the day they say "I do."

Maeve, David and I were having so much fun during their engagement session that we nearly forgot to have the couple change into their second outfits. Thankfully, the portraits at their future ceremony site acted as a bit of a natural break point and we were able to dismiss them to the restroom to change and for me to ponder where we'd spend the back half of the session.

This is where my experience at the venue came into play because I have such precious memories of many of these spots thanks to previous couples so it was only natural we ended up on some of the rocks outside the small barn and at my favorite place on the entire property ... the back porch of the bridal cottage (which just so happens to be where I photographed the current backdrop photo I take to wedding expos ... that's how much I love that area.)

Maeve and David only had one small location request for their photos and that was, of course, in front of the alpaca barn at the property so it was only fitting we'd end their session there and, like I do with all of my most fun couples, I simply had to give them the floor for one final weird pose before we called it a wrap.

     And, boy, did they deliver.

As I packed up my gear and headed out of Five Bridge Inn, I couldn't help but laugh thinking of all the fun I had on Maeve and David's engagement session. The entire reason couples do these sessions is to get a feel for me — and me of them — and I know for a fact I learned everything I need to know about this bride and groom on this hot August afternoon.

So thanks Maeve and David for a beautiful couple of hours spent together. I can't wait to relive it all this time next year and see if we can somehow outdo ourselves on your wedding day. Sure, the bar is pretty high but I think with the right mindset and justtttt enough weird energy, we'll not only meet the bar but hurdle over it. See you in 2026!
