Whenever I sit down with a bride and groom for the first time, I like to get to know them a little bit and, as part of the feeling out process, I tell that what I'm really looking for from my clients are laid back, go-with-the-flow type people.
In essence, I'm looking for couples like Jennifer and Kevin.
Jennifer and Kevin, whose wedding I will shoot in September, have been the epitome of laid back ever since we first started talking about their big day back in March of last year.
I knew their engagement session would be one of the most casual I've ever shot but even I couldn't have predicted how relaxed they would be and their ease in front of the camera turned a late afternoon shoot at Gillette Castle in East Haddam into an absolute breeze.
If their wedding is anywhere near as relaxed as this engagement session was, it's going to be a great time.
Is it September yet?
Jennifer and Kevin chose to do their shoot at Gillette Castle State Park, which is quite a ways from me but was totally worth the drive.
The park is a small piece of prestine land deep in rural Connecticut but it's one of the most scenic spots I've seen in the state.
Needless to say, we had a lot of options with where to shoot and didn't have to go very far either. That's a win-win in my book.
What I loved the most about Jennifer and Kevin's shoot was how casual they were about everything. If I saw a spot I wanted to take them to, they went no questions asked. When I told them to pose, they fell in each other's arms naturally like seasoned pros.
Even when I told them to dip, a challenge for most couples, they nailed it on the first try. It was almost like an engagement session played at 1.5 X speed. In other words, it was awesome.
All told, Jennifer and Kevin were one of my easiest couples to work with and I couldn't have asked more from this beautiful May afternoon shoot in Connecticut.
Their big day may still be a season away, and I won't lie and say I'm super eager to skip over summer but I know there's a large circle on their names after the way this shoot went.
This is the type of couple I love to work with and I already know we're going to create something special at the end of September.
