Jimmy & Saken
Lake Pearl, Wrentham, Massachusetts (Ceremony & Reception)
July 8th, 2018*
I love small, intimate weddings. To me, there's something special about having only those who are closest to you witness one of the most special days of your life.
While big weddings are nice, everything feels just a little more personal with a smaller wedding day and for Jimmy and Saken, who were married on a beautiful July afternoon at Lake Pearl in Wrentham, the entire point of the day was to celebrate their life and love together but, more importantly, those closest to them that made it all possible.
Jimmy and Saken's wedding day was all about the bonds of family and, with many of their family members traveling from various places around the world to be here, you could tell just how much this day meant to those in attendance.
It was a beautiful wedding, made more so by the love of a bride and groom who couldn't have been more perfect for each other. And don't take my word for it. You can see it for yourself in the way Jimmy and Saken looked at each other on this day, a day they won't soon forget.
My coverage of Jimmy and Saken's wedding day began with a much longer groom prep session than I'm used to. But I'm glad it did. In the two hours or so that I spent watching and documenting Jimmy as he got ready for his big day, I learned a lot about the groom-to-be.
Jimmy was a lot of fun to be around and was full of nervous energy as the minutes ticked by. Without question my favorite part of the day, however, was his genuine excitement at taking photos and coming up with ideas and poses he thought would look nice.
I could tell how special this day was for him and knew it would be a ceremony to remember when he said "I do."
After some brief time spent shooting Jimmy and his guys outside in the warm but not uncomfortable heat, the time came to head down to the beach at Lake Pearl.
I've photographed a few weddings at this venue but prior to Jimmy and Saken's big day, I had never shot a ceremony at the beach itself and once we got used to the jet skis on the water whizzing by, it was actually a gorgeous location with a backdrop to die for.
I loved how emotional both Jimmy and Saken got as they saw each other for the first time, with the groom cracking a huge smile and the bride getting emotional and dabbing tears from her eyes as she walked down the aisle with her mother.
It was the perfect way to start a ceremony that was all about wearing your emotions on your sleeve. While short and sweet, Jimmy and Saken packed a powerful emotional punch with their nuptials, whether it was in the two beautiful readings they had guests present or a sweet sand ceremony that symbolized so much about what they hoped to accomplish together in life. Either way, it was hard for most in attendance to avoid getting at least a little emotional as they exchanged their vows.
Following Jimmy and Saken's ceremony, I made my way over to cocktail hour to photograph their guests as they mingled. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious to get back with the bride and groom as they got ready for their formal portraits, though, as I knew the beach at Lake Pearl would be a beautiful background for photos I knew they'd love.
Jimmy and Saken's bride and groom portraits were a whirlwind as we rushed through the short allotted time period to capture as many looks as possible but, overall, I feel like we did a great job showcasing the wide variety of spots at the Lake Pearl beach and gave this bride and groom plenty to choose from when looking back on their photos or trying to decide what to hang on their wall.
Following the session, it was time to head into the Tree Top room at Lake Pearl, one of my favorite places in all of New England to shoot a reception.
I love the way Lake Pearl looks as the sun starts to set. Without question, the venue is one of the nicest I've photographed at and details like the table settings, sweetheart table and cake just pop against the white wall and beautiful uplighting that every couple seems to spring for there.
As much fun as photographing the details were, however, I could not wait to see Jimmy and Saken hit the dance floor for their first dance and the moment "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran and Beyonce started, I knew this would be a sweet and beautiful moment for this couple.
What I didn't know, however, was that it would be the moment following the first dance which would steal the show.
After a beautiful and sweetly intimate song to start the dancing off, Jimmy and Saken wanted their guests to know the theme of the rest of the night would be to party and they did just that.
With the DJ playing Mundian To Bach Ke" by Punjabi MC, and the bride and groom forcing ALL of their guests to come to the dance floor, the vibe inside that Lake Pearl reception room quickly went from sweet and sentimental to a total blast. It was the perfect song to get the party started ... even if there would be a while before the dance floor opened for good since we still had toasts, a blessing and dinner to take care of.
Thankfully, all the speeches at Jimmy and Saken's wedding were entertaining, emotional and straight to the point.
Even the bride and groom got in on the action, taking a moment to thank those family members who traveled from all over the world to be there on their special day.
Following the speeches by Jimmy's best man and Saken's maid of honor, the bride and groom took a few minutes to relax before we stole them away one last time for some beautiful sunset photos.
All in all, by the time it came time for me to call it a night on Jimmy and Saken's wedding, I knew we had captured something the couple would never forget.
This was a day full of heart, love and feeling and one of the more fun weddings I've seen.
I enjoyed watching the way this bride and groom soaked in every moment of their day and I don't think they could have asked for a better afternoon to pledge their lives to one another.
And, really, isn't that what marriage is all about?
