Jamie & Justin

Prescott Farm, Portsmouth, Rhode Island (Ceremony); Jacky's Galaxie Restaurant, Bristol, Rhode Island. (Reception)

June 19th, 2015

A lot of planning goes into a wedding.

Anyone who has walked down the aisle knows it can take at least a year of solid work from start to finish to achieve the day you had always envisioned. This isn't true for every couple, however. I met Jamie and Justin after a small bridal show in Bristol this year and when I inquired about when they were getting married, and they told me June, I assumed it was in 2016.

Nope. They were finalizing details for a wedding three months down the line and, while rare, it proved to be all the time they needed as their June wedding at Prescott Farm in Portsmouth was an incredibly awesome time and so uniquely them ... right down to the oddest yet most colorful bouquet I've ever seen.

So, please, check out the photos from that lovely day last month. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Without a doubt, Jamie was one of the most laid back brides I've worked with. For the majority of bridal prep, she was laughing and joking with friends or playing iPad games with her nephew. There were few, if any, signs she was nervous as her big moment approached.

And even after she got dressed, Jamie was still the same happy-go-lucky bride with a smile on her face and an infectious laugh.

What I loved the most about her, though, was her unique tattoos and her desire to carry a bouquet that can only be called one thing ... wild.

Seriously. Look at that thing. By far the most unique bouquet I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of them.

Jamie and Justin chose Prescott Farm as the site of their ceremony and these photos do not do it justice. Talk about an incredible site to behold. The wind mill and the gorgeous forest area were only two of the great things about this ceremony, which lasted 10 minutes in all ... entrances and exits included.

Jamie and Justin had told me their ceremony was going to brief and, boy, was it. Before I even knew what hit me it seemed like we were on our way to the formal photo session and, honestly, given how beautiful the Prescott Farms grounds were, I can't say I blame them.

What I loved the most about this formal session was how chill and relaxed Jamie and Justin were. They had a total of five people in their wedding party and apart from an incredibly quick family formal session, we were onto the bride and groom formals almost a half-hour earlier than planned, which gave me PLENTY of time to work with the two of them until my heart was content.

Jamie, Justin and I picked a number of great places around Prescott Farms to take photos and, honestly, at some point we ran out of things to do. I could tell the new bride and her groom were eager to get to the reception, though, so we cut it off after about an hour of laughing and taking photos and I couldn't ask for much more from a formal photo session.

As for the reception, I knew the minute I met Jamie and Justin that the party was going to define their day and it sure did. Jamie and Justin aren't a couple shackled by the traditional beats of a wedding reception – they didn't even have a cake – and once the first dance was over, it was clear this was going to be a party to remember.

I've been to a lot of wedding receptions over the past few years but I've never seen a group of people as rowdy and raucous as the ones who attended Jamie and Justin's wedding. It was clear from the multiple trips to the bar and the great fun on the dance floor that this was a celebration a lot of people were looking forward to and I can't say I blame them.

All in all, Jamie and Justin were a great couple to photograph and incredibly accomodating to all the ideas I had as their photographer.

I think that the relationship between client and photographer is an important one to foster to create great wedding photos and, on this beautiful June day in Portsmouth and Bristol, we clearly did just that.
