Tatum & Joseph

There are few things I love more in this world than a bride and groom who don't take themselves too seriously on their wedding day.
Sure, weddings are serious events where you are literally changing your life but … they're also meant to be fun and, deep down, is there really a better way to get married than by having a day full of genuinely funny moments and endless laughter? I don't think there is.
That's why I absolutely adored Tatum and Joseph's wedding back in July at The Barn at the Blackstone National in Sutton, Massachusetts as these two had plenty of beautiful, romantic moments … but the real moments? The ones I know they'll remember for a lifetime? Those are the ones where they were cracking each other up, being absolutely silly and showing exactly why they are perfect for one another.
And, to me, there's no better way they could have said “I do.”

I've always felt that you can tell a lot about the way a bride is feeling from the first few moments you walk into bridal prep and this was definitely true of Tatum on her special day as she and her girls were super chill and relaxed while they finished up hair and makeup.

The group already had their dresses ready for me to photograph and the details nice and neatly organized, making my job a breeze but what I loved the most is how relaxed Tatum herself looked. You could see she was a little anxious about kickstarting a busy day of events but it never felt like she was nervous as much as eagerly anticipating every memory she was set to make.

As for the groom? Well, Joseph was ready and waiting for me to grab his groom prep shots ...and we did in about five minutes flat which should tell you all you need to know about how easygoing he was.

Tatum and Joseph had a lot of special moments planned for their wedding day but I'm so grateful with the way they scheduled everything out as our first "big moment" of the day was their first look and I could tell, even in the moment, that both this bride and groom would enjoy their wedding day most by each other's side as opposed to waiting to see one another at their ceremony.

That was definitely true as you could sense any little remaining worries fade away the moment Joseph turned around and saw his bride-to-be.

Tatum and Joseph were positively glowing from the moment they got to see each other all dressed and ready to get married and it was great to grab some quick bride and groom portraits of the two of them alone before we headed into their family formals.

Looking back on their day, I really have to give them credit as Tatum and Joseph were married on one of the hottest days of the summer and it was absolutely SWELTERING at times but they never looked like they wanted to be anywhere else. I think that says a lot about how much they looked forward to this day and what it meant to them.

One of the things I loved the most about Tatum and Joseph's wedding was how authentic it was to what THEY wanted. At various points in our pre-wedding conversations, Tatum and Joseph stressed to me the things they cared about and what they didn't care about and one of the best examples of this is their wedding ceremony itself.

Tatum and Joseph were married in the traditional ceremony area of the Barn at Blackstone National and it really is a lovely spot to say "I do" as it's always beautifully lit and very spacious for a large crowd.

Those in attendance had a great view of how happy Joseph looked as his bride walked down the aisle and you could tell how much this walk meant to Tatum as she made it with two of the most important men in her life, leading to one of my favorite photos of the wedding as the guys handed her off to her soon-to-be husband.

But what Tatum and Joseph's wedding ceremony DIDN'T have was wasted time. The pair kept their nuptials bare and basic, choosing to have their moment in the spotlight go as quick as possible so they could get to the things they cared about more: celebrating their love with one another and their invited guests.

All told, Tatum and Joseph's actual ceremony lasted a cool two minutes and 15 seconds from start to finish and that felt so true to them as a couple.

If I had to pick my favorite moment of Tatum and Joseph's wedding ceremony, it would have to be when Tatum messed up an attempted dip as she and Joseph walked down the aisle together at the end of their ceremony and the bride laughed and said "Well, I f**ked that up."

It was a lighthearted, off the cuff joke and, honestly, set the vibes pretty well about how unserious we were all taking some of the silly things of a traditional wedding day. This was also on full display with Tatum and Joseph's wedding party as Tatum's girls and Joseph's guys wasted no time doing all the silly things they wanted and posing for some pretty epic group shots if I do say so myself.

Because of how oppressive the heat was on Tatum and Joseph's wedding day, we opted to skip the traditional post wedding ceremony bride and groom portraits with the promise that we'd finish them later when it wasn't so hot out. This meant the bride and groom got to enjoy their cocktail hour and me? I got to finish grabbing detail photos of all the special ways Tatum and Joseph made their wedding stand out. And, trust me, it stood out.

I didn't know exactly what to expect from Tatum and Joseph's wedding reception but I knew one thing: It was going to be a down home, country type of vibe and that was clear from the moment the newlyweds hit the dance floor for their first dance, set to “Then” by Brad Paisley.

I always love shooting first dances and big moments at the Barn at Blackstone National as the room has a certain beautiful light quality that makes these moments stand out but I genuinely think Tatum and Joseph's first dance would have stood out regardless with how deeply in love they looked throughout it.

I'm not sure Tatum's arms left her husband the entire time they danced to Brad Paisley and I loved that for her.

With how packed the timeline was for Tatum and Joseph's wedding day was, I was so glad to see the back half of the night was relatively relaxed. The first went from their first dance straight to an hour-long dinner period and I could tell they needed the break.

Not only was the food great but the pause in action allowed Tatum and Joseph to finally spend time truly mingling with the special people who came to celebrate their day and once dinner was over, we made sure to breeze through the remaining formalities to get to the moment they were all waiting for: the party.

First up, a small cake cutting. Then, two lovely toasts.

Where Tatum and Joseph's wedding reception really took an emotional turn was Tatum's dance with her brother in the traditional father-daughter dance spot. The emotion on Tatum's face during this moment was truly beautiful and echoed a short while later when Joseph and his mother took the dance floor and she, too, got hit in the feels.

I love seeing an otherwise super fun day take a sudden and sharp turn into sweet and sentimental and that sure was the case on this beautiful summer evening.

Rounding out the big dance moments was a more informal, but just as special, dance that Tatum had with her mother that morphed into a generations dance with her grandma. Talk about a special moment.

With formalities out of the way, and the weather considerably cooler, I finally had the chance to take Tatum and Joseph out for that bride and groom portrait session we had pushed back from earlier in the day. And I don't think I could have picked a better time to do so.

I genuinely mean this: This 25 or so minute period was, without question, one of the most fun times I had with a bride and groom this year. Tatum and Joseph were so relaxed and carefree by this point in their wedding — and the weather gorgeous — that everything we did came out so great.

And to top it off? Once I knew we had what we needed in the bag, I told the two to get weird and silly and they delivered in spades.

I could have left Tatum and Joseph after their bride and groom portraits knowing I did a strong job at their wedding but, ya know, there was still an hour of my coverage left and a LOT of dancing to photograph.

And, as I expected, this was one fun crowd.

I enjoyed shooting Tatum and Joseph's dance floor candids, especially as the floor itself got more and more packed as folks made their way from hanging outside to hitting the well known wedding party beats.

When my time finally did come to and end on Tatum and Joseph's wedding day, I was absolutely drained and physically beat up in the best way possible. Tatum and Joseph and I made the most of their special day and truly got our steps in by being all over the place and, honestly, I would have it no other way.

When I look back on the 2025 wedding season, I have to imagine that this one will be high on my list of my favorite days and not just because the photos were great ... because the couple was even better.

So, thank you Tatum and Joseph for a beautiful wedding day full of amazing moments both sweet, sentimental and downright ridiculous. I wish you all the best on this next chapter of your lives together as husband and wife.
