As part of a regular feature on this website, I am going to feature one of my favorite photos each month and talk a little bit about how I got the shot, where it is located and what it means to me. This month's entry is an absolutely breathtaking sunset I managed to grab while shooting an event in Newport, RI.
It's so easy to take Rhode Island for granted.
We're a small state. One you can get from top to bottom in over the course of 45 minutes.
But what we lack in size, we more than make up for in pure beauty and incredible scenic images.
Case in point, this photo I took last month at the Newport Yachting Center.
On assignment for an unrelated event, I had no intention of taking any landscape photos this sunny summer evening but, honestly, that all changed when I looked at this sunset.
The colors here are just top-notch and, quite honestly, this beautiful photo required little to no editing.
What I love about this photo is that in this one photo, you can see everything that makes Newport, and by extension Rhode Island as a whole, unbeatable.
You've got the peaceful and tranquil water, the gorgeous sailboats soaking up the last sunrays of a picture-perfect summer afternoon and, of course, the scenic landmark of the Pell Bridge in the background.
This, to me, says everything you need to know about summer in Rhode Island and why, even if you're down on the Ocean State as a place to live full-time, you can't help but admire the big and bold sights the country's smallest state has to offer.
It almost makes putting up with the tourists and traffic during the summer worth it.
