Sarah & Mike
The Barker House, Scituate, Massachusetts (Ceremony & Reception)
April 10th, 2026
Every wedding tells two stories: The one you see with your eyes and the one that you'll miss if you blink.
I think that's why I'm so drawn to wedding photography and have been for well over a decade and a half. It's the one art form that really freezes those moments that might be lost to time otherwise. It's a simple look from a bride to a groom. Or the way a groom wipes a tear from his eye during his vows. Or even the extra little oomph a bride puts into her grip as she holds her father tight during their father-daughter dance.
That's why I loved Sarah and Mike's April wedding at the Barker House in Scituate, Massachusetts so much. On the surface, it was a cool, calm and collected day full of laughter and joy. But, when you really take a look at the day through their photos, you see the untold story of the fleeting moments that told the real story of the day and that, to me, is what this pair will remember the most.

My time with Sarah and Mike started as, seemingly, all my Barker House weddings do ... with a visit to the Scituate Lighthouse. I've lost track of how many times I've said this but I have a love/hate relationship with the Scituate Lighthouse. On the one hand, it's a beautiful location for photos and it has one of the most stunning views of the water you'll ever see. On the other, it's practically a wind tunnel and taking any photos is difficult at best most days.
On this particular April afternoon, we were really up against the elements as it was, arguably, the windiest day I've seen at this particular location. To their credit, though, Sarah and Mike never let that bother them and I could tell right from the moment they first saw each other for their first look that they were determined not to let much take away from their special day and I loved that for them.

Because my time with Sarah and Mike didn't include any of their respective bride and groom preps, I initially felt like I was jumping in cold when they shared their first look but, thankfully, that didn't matter because what happened next was my favorite part of their day and the perfect way to really set the tone for my coverage of their wedding.
Sarah and Mike shared private vows steps away from the Lighthouse and I don't think I could have asked for a more scenic moment from their wedding. I loved the way both Sarah and Mike got emotional during their words to one another and, as I said above, this was where still photography really captures moments you might miss otherwise.
Neither Sarah nor Mike let the emotions of their day take them over much but, in this shared private vow exchange, you could see how much this day meant to them both.

Sarah and Mike chose to take their formal family and wedding party photos at the lighthouse and I can't blame them. Apart from the wind, it was a beautiful day.
But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eager to get to their bride and groom portraits and, by the time we did, we didn't have nearly as much time as I would have liked to work with these two but, honestly, I would never have had enough because this view and this pair were beautiful in so many ways and just fun to work with.
I especially loved the scenic shots we were getting with the rocks and water in the background. You can't even tell just how insane the wind was up there.

With formal photos in the books, it was time for us to finally make our way to the Barker House for Sarah and Mike's actual wedding ceremony and I was just thrilled the weather was nice and toasty and we'd be outside for this celebration.
I loved Sarah and Mike's wedding ceremony and one of the biggest reasons why was how happy they looked. Whether it was walking down the aisle or listening to their officiant speak, you could tell exactly how much this moment meant to this bride and groom by just looking at their faces, especially as they walked down the aisle.

Sarah and Mike's wedding ceremony wasn't long but it was special and I have to give the bride credit. The sun was directly in her eyes and made it near impossible for her to see but, to Sarah's credit, she didn't let that slow her down one bit.
Even a slight stumble on the formal vows wasn't enough to break this bride's stride and after exchanging rings and sealing their love with a kiss, Sarah and Mike cruised down the aisle as husband and wife with the biggest grins we'd see on their faces all afternoon.

Even though I was happy enough with the bride and groom portraits we took at the Scituate Lighthouse, when I went to congratulate Sarah and Mike after their wedding ceremony, I couldn't help but ask for a few minutes of their time — now that they were married — to see if we could get some more low key, relaxed portraits of them after they tied the knot.
I'm glad I did as this little impromptu session gave us my favorite photos of the two of them all day and really did a better job, I think, of capturing their unique vibe.

Inside the Barker House, meanwhile, Sarah and Mike really went all out in decorating for their reception. I loved the personal touches these two made on their decor and my favorite aspect were the unique ways they made their seating chart stand out and, in a perfect-for-the-season idea, their Bruins jersey turned guestbook signed by their friends and family was one of the coolest things i've seen at a wedding so far this year.

I had a feeling we were in for a vibe shift as Sarah and Mike's wedding guests entered the ballroom of the Barker House and, from the moment the bride and groom were introduced, I knew i was right.
Sarah and Mike kicked off the formal portion of their evening with a first dance set to “More and More” by Newfound Glory and you could see right away how much work these two put into their movements for this dance.
I LOVE a well choreographed first dance for a bride and groom and Sarah and Mike not only knocked their dance out of the park but set a beautiful tone for the rest of the night right from the start of their reception.

After a great dinner break, Sarah and Mike sat down and got ready for the back half of their reception formalities and we began the slate with two toasts. The first by Mike's best man was a beautiful toast that spoke all of the couple at the forefront of the day.
The second, though, may have stolen the night as Sarah's man and maid of honor surprised the bride with a full on musical number that led to her quietly exclaiming "Oh my f*****g God" in the best way possible.
I loved this moment for the bride and you could tell how much that attention to detail mattered to her as every time I picked my camera up and focused it on Sarah during this toast, she was either laughing or wiping away tears.

The emotions would continue through parent dances as well.
Mike started things off with a nice and sweet dance with his mother where both were all smiles and laughing while having a great time in one another's arms.
Much like the toasts, when it came Sarah's turn, the emotions were a little more intense as Sarah and her father shared a super fun dance together than got real serious and real emotional between the two real quick.
That last photo of Sarah holding her father tightly? Don't be surprised if you see that in my portfolio update at the end of the year because, man, what a moment.

Of course, no good wedding is complete without a great party and I had a feeling this night would be one that closed out perfectly.
I was right.
Sarah and Mike's wedding guests came to DANCE and took over the entirety of the Barker House dance floor in a way I haven't seen at a wedding before.
I loved that for this couple and loved that the energy in the room was so fun and silly all night long.

What I loved the most, though, was that everywhere I looked, Sarah herself was in the middle of the madness. Every time I picked up my camera, she was in a different group of people throwing herself around, twirling in her dress or just letting completely loose.
It was a surefire sign that she was having the best night of her life and, honestly, who could ask for more?

My time with Sarah and Mike ended nice and casually as the party raged behind me but, honestly, I didn't feel like I missed anything whatsoever because this night and this crowd were top notch from start to finish.
More importantly, though, Sarah and Mike's wedding was just a beautiful time to document. I adored this couple and the special way they set about savoring their day and I know, in my heart, they had the wedding they always dreamed of and it was exactly what they wanted.
So thank you Sarah and Mike for a wonderful wedding day and best of luck on this new and exciting chapter of your lives together as husband and wife.
