Kate & Tim

I'm a sucker for a good love story. It's why I ask every one of my clients to tell me how they met and what their life was like before they decided to walk down the aisle.

While it doesn't happen often, every now and again I get "childhood sweethearts." These are folks who are so meant to be together that they don't even remember like before the other because they've known each other or been in a relationship with each other so long they don't remember what life was like before the other came around.

That's why I was looking forward to Kate and Tim's wedding so much. These two met in middle school and orbited each other's lives for years before they started dating. When you have that kind of history together, you wedding isn't just a day to celebrate. It's a day to remember ... both the people you were and the people you are becoming.

And if their wedding is any indication, these two newlyweds have a life of love and laughter ahead of them because their wedding was worth every moment of the wait and then some.

My time with Kate and Tim began with arguably my favorite bride and groom preps of the entire 2025 wedding season. Kate and Tim got ready at a family members house and it might be the best single location I've ever shot prep as Kate and her girls were upstairs in a massive bathroom area and Tim and his guys had the entire downstairs level AND basement at their disposal.

More importantly, Kate and Tim booked me to be at the FULL bride and groom prep portions of the day — a full 2.5 hours of coverage just of prep — something I haven't done in quite some time but something I appreciated so much as it gave me tim to document all the moments of their getting ready process.

I especially loved the contrast as Tim and his guys were listening to rock and rap music and playing pool while Kate and her girls were all about the pop music and had their hands full with all that goes into being "wedding ready" as a bride and bridesmaids.

Kate and Tim said "I do" at Miraval Gardens by Wedgewood Weddings, a venue I had never photographed at before but once I'd had on my bucket list for quite some time and the moment I walked into the space, I was thrilled with what I saw. Not only did Kate and Tim do a masterful job decorating the ballroom area but they planned their timeline perfectly and we had no reason, whatsoever, to rush on any part of this day.

When I arrived at their venue, I caught Tim and his guys getting boutonnieres pinned and knew we were right on schedule, a sight I love to see.

I was kind of curious what kind of bride Kate might be given her bridal prep and how relaxed things were at the house. There's always a bit of nervous energy when things get "real" and a bride puts her dress on but, if Kate had any nerves, they never came up as she was cracking jokes and laughing the entire time her girls tried to finish her buttons and put her veil on.

That was key, it turns out, as her dress was quite intricate and involved a LOT of work to get right.

The first order of business on Kate and Tim's formal wedding timeline was a first look. I'm not sure what I expected from these two given their LONG history together but their first look was one of the most casual I had in 2025 and felt very much like a "Oh, you look great. Now let's get the party started!" moment than one where everyone was going to cry and get emotional.

Of course, that was probably because just off camera practically the entire wedding party and have the bride and groom's family were looking on but, still. I knew if these two would show any emotion, it would be later during their ceremony.

Kate and Tim taking care of their first look before their wedding worked out great for us as it allowed us to knock out family and wedding party formals before their ceremony ... something that is absolutely crucial for a November wedding with its dwindling sun.

I loved Kate and Tim's wedding party, in particular, as they kept things nice and loose and were a lot of fun to work with.

If there's one thing I could change about Kate and Tim's wedding day, it would be the temperature. Despite our best efforts, we don't control the sun and this wedding was taking place on the first week of November. That meant the temperature was going to drop, quickly, as the day wore on and by the time we got to their ceremony, it was COLD COLD, especially since we were outdoors in the shade.

I genuinely don't think Kate or Tim cared though. From the moment Tim stood up front and waited for his soon-to-be bride to walk down the aisle, you could see there was nowhere in the world either one of them would rather have been in that moment.

Kate and Tim's wedding ceremony was a beautiful celebration of their long connection and relationship and it was full of sweet little moments that made the crowd go "aww."

I was especially fond of the little jokes their officiant cracked that kept the mood light but one of my favorite parts of the ceremony was watching the slightly nervous energy these two had as they exchanged their vows and rings. It was a reminder that while they may have been together for a long time, THIS was a different kind of together and they were excited to see what it would bring.

Following Kate and Tim's ceremony, we took care of a few extended family group shots with the folks who couldn't make it earlier in the day. Having the newlyweds already in position for photos made it easy for me to convince them to do some more bride and groom photos now that they were officially married and I'm glad we did.

I spent quite a bit of time with Kate and Tim taking photos of them together but I didn't know that time would translate to my single favorite image of 2025: The image that led off this blog and, as I write this, is the main photo on my home page and my current bridal expo background.

It's a simple image but one I think sums up my photography perfectly. After spending time going through all of the standard poses and making sure I had what I needed to give them, I walked with Kate and Tim back to their reception venue but, before getting there, saw a fun little patch with nice foliage.

My instructions to them were simple: "Hey, go over there and walk to me" and the rest was history.

I love a good walking image as it really captures a couple's personalities and essence and few have done that better than the shots we captured during this small window of time on Kate and Tim's wedding day.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't over the moon to get inside after Kate and Tim's couples' portraits. Like I said, it was COLD out there.

More importantly, though, I was excited to get to the reception portion of this wedding and right from the moment Kate and Tim had their reception introductions, you could feel the vibe of the wedding shift and it was clear we were in for a special night.

The newlyweds opened their reception program with a first dance set to “Tangled up in You” by Staind, one of my favorite wedding songs and it set the tone for the night perfectly.

Even though I had never been there before, I have to say: Miraval Gardens is an amazing room to shoot a reception in. Not only is it beautifully lit — both in ambient light but also in uplighting near the ceiling — but the room is crazy spacious and you can low key do whatever you want with lighting in it, something I loved so much.

I think the room's beauty really shined through on Kate and Tim's parent dances, though. Something about this big space made this marquee moments even more special and I think both dances were sweet, sentimental and moments this bride and groom will cherish for a lifetime.

Kate and Tim kept the vibe of their reception chill and low key. The pair had just a couple speeches before dinner and, after their meal was served, had one of the more relaxed cake cuttings I've seen this year.

After their cake cutting, it was time for Kate and Tim's dance floor to open up and, almost instantly, I knew we were in for one of the most fun parties I had in 2025.

You know things are about to pop off when the first photos you take have folks in light up glasses. I don't know if that's a rule but it should be.

Things got super fun, super quick at Kate and Tim's reception and I. was. here. for. it.

I had a lot of favorite moments during this reception but I think Kate dancing to "Rasputin" by Boney M. was my favorite just because of how out of left field it felt.

I should have expected it, though. Kate was not the kind of bride to spend her wedding reception sitting down talking to folks. She was ALL over this dance floor and I loved that for her.

As my time with Kate and Tim came to an end, I practically fell to the floor out of sheer exhaustion. Not only because their 10-hour wedding day was the longest wedding I shot in 2025 but because it came as the final wedding in a four-weddings-in-four-day stretch that really tested just how much I could endure physically.

If I had to choose one wedding to cap that streak with, though, I'm glad it was Kate and Tim as their event had everything I love about wedding days and more.

More importantly, it was clear to me that THEY were having the time of their lives and, really, isn't that the entire reason folks get married in the first place.

There's a reason Kate and Tim's wedding holds such a special place in my heart when I reflect on the 2025 season and it's the couple at the center of it so, thank you Kate and Tim, for allowing me to document such a special moment in your lives. I hope your wedding was everything you could have asked for and more and I wish you all the best on this new chapter of your lives together. :)
